📍150 Hypoluxo Rd, Lantana
🕒 Open from sunrise to sunset
This is one of the most endangered ecosystems in the United States, and one of the best nature trails in Palm Beach County

🌿 Rare Florida Scrub Habitat
Florida scrub is a rare, fire dependent ecosystem found on dry, nutrient poor white sand ridges and ancient dunes throughout Florida. It is one of the most unique and critically endangered habitats in the country. And this preserve, right in the heart of Lantana, protects about 100 acres of it.
🌵 Plants Found Here
Most of the habitat is made up of sugar sand, making it hot and dry. Walking through the preserve, you’ll come across lots of unique plants like prickly pear cactus, scrub oak, sand pine, saw palmetto, and Florida rosemary.
🦎 Wildlife In The Scrub
The preserve is home to gopher tortoises, cute scrub lizards, and many species of birds. Florida scrub habitats are also the only place in the world where you’ll find the Florida Scrub Jay. They’re quite rare, and I don’t think any have been spotted in the preserve, but you might be lucky enough to see one.
🥾 Trails and Observation Tower
The preserve features two trails, the Cottonweed Trail (paved 0.25 miles) and the Eastern Pondhawk Trail (sandy 1.5 miles). I highly recommend the Pondhawk Trail. There’s also an observation tower that lets you see the preserve from a completely different perspective and is a great spot for birdwatching.
🌎 Final Thoughts
It is estimated that over 90% of Florida’s scrub habitat has been lost to development, agriculture, and fire suppression, leaving only a few fragmented pockets throughout the state. One of them being the Hypoluxo Scrub Natural area. Walking through these habitats feels like stepping back in time and seeing what much of coastal South Florida looked like long before we arrived.

📍5401 Bay Shore Rd, Sarasota
🎟 Ranges from $5 to $45
This isn’t your typical museum, it’s one of Florida's most impressive and historically important estates. If you’re ever visiting Sarasota, it’s an absolute must.

🏰 The Ca’ d’Zan Mansion
This is one of the most beautiful historic mansions in Florida. Built in 1926 for John and Mable Ringling, the stunning estate spans 36,000 square feet and features more than 50 rooms. As you explore the home, you’ll notice its design was inspired by Venetian Gothic palazzos and Mediterranean Revival architecture. It feels like you’ve stepped back in time and are wandering through a grand Italian palace.
🌺 Bayfront Gardens
As you walk around the property, you’ll find manicured gardens, towering banyan trees (some of the largest I’ve ever seen), marble statues, and beautiful pathways that open up to amazing views of Sarasota Bay.
🖼️ A World Class Art Collection
John built his own Museum of Art to house his growing collection of more than 600 works of art, which he intended to leave behind as a gift to the people of Florida. Today, the museum’s collection has grown to over 10,000 pieces and is home to one of the most important Baroque art collections in the United States.
🎪 A Circus Legacy
John Ringling was one of the five brothers behind the famous Ringling Bros. Circus. The property features a circus museum that celebrates that legacy, showcasing colorful wagons, historic costumes, vintage posters, and the Howard Bros. circus model, the world’s largest miniature circus with over 42,000 crafted pieces.
