Peggy Adams has been caring for animals in our community since 1925…

📜 100 Years Serving The Palm Beaches
In 1924, a group of eight women got together at the home of Amy Phillips in Palm Beach to discuss what to do about the growing number of pets that were being left behind by winter visitors. The following year, the Animal Rescue League was incorporated, making it one of Florida’s oldest animal rescue organizations. You can read more about their history here.

🐈 What Do They Do
Peggy Adams isn’t just about rescues and adoptions. They offer many programs like their free Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return initiative for outdoor cats, Peggy’s Pantry to help struggling families feed their pets, and an emergency support program. The emergency program provides temporary housing and medical care for pets whose owners are facing hospitalization or other hardships.

🐶 Has Cared For More Than 1 Million Animals
Over the decades, Peggy Adams has rescued, rehabilitated, rehomed and cared for 1.5 million animals. Today, they help more than 35,000 animals annually through their various programs and services.

💉 Affordable Veterinary Clinic
They have a public veterinary clinic that offers low cost services like spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, and general preventative care. However, they do not diagnose or treat illnesses. You can learn more about their clinics here.

🫶 Ways To Get Involved
There are so many ways for the community to get involved, whether it’s volunteering to walk dogs, bottle feed kittens, fostering a pet in need, or making a donation. Every bit of support makes a difference, and it's the reason why Peggy Adams has been able to do so much for all these precious animals.

📍4533 Solomon Rd, Ona, FL

One of the most unique homes in Florida, it feels like something straight out of a storybook.

🏰 A Castle In The Swamp
The shiny castle sits on 40 acres of Florida swampland, which has flooded many times over the years. It is covered in aluminum printing plates from a local newspaper that were bought for 25 cents apiece in the early ‘80s.

👷 Built By One Man
The entire structure was built by one man, Howard Solomon. The only thing he hired help for was to pour the concrete and lift the trusses he built, other than that, everything was made by him with his own hands.

🎨 More Than Just A Builder
Howard was more than just a builder, he was a very talented artist. Walking through the castle is like stepping into a giant art installation. You’ll find hundreds of sculptures and art pieces, narrow staircases, and more than 80 handmade stained glass windows. Most of which have been made from repurposed materials and each one has its own story to tell.

🚢 The Boat In The Moat
Howard had heart surgery in 1990, and to help regain his strength, he decided to build a replica of a Spanish galleon known as Boat in the Moat, which took him 4 years to complete. It now serves as a restaurant with a medieval Florida fantasy atmosphere.

👏 Still Standing
Solomon’s Castle has been through many hurricanes and has flooded 15 times, yet it has suffered very little damage and still stands tall. Howard passed away in 2016, but his amazing work and vision live on thanks to his daughter Alane and her husband Dean, who continue to run and preserve this wonderful property.
